“Count It Up” is the type of track that would instantly transport listeners to a swim-up bar with a mojito in hand.
We’ve all been there. It probably happened to you today. You may have heard a song you weren’t familiar with and the internal hourglass in your head was running out. You’re wondering, “do I skip to the next track?” We’re demanding listeners. We want to be hooked within seconds.
It’s a rare occasion when a simple kick-snare pattern and bass groove can solely be enough to completely draw listeners in. That’s what happened when I heard L.A WOMEN’s latest single, “Count It Up” featuring fellow New Zealand artist, Nick Chrisp from the future bass duo, SACHI.
“Count It Up” is a slow and sensual funk track guided by a playful groove that even the friend who “doesn’t dance” would be hard pressed to find an excuse not to get moving. Frontman Jake Schdroski and SACHI’s Nick Chrisp bring a summery essence to the track with their R&B vocal runs. If it were possible, “Count It Up” is the type of track that would instantly transport listeners to a swim-up bar with a mojito in hand. Seriously – take one listen to this track and you’ll see what I mean. It’s summer-ready.
When I asked L.A WOMEN, who consists of cousins Jake Schdroski and Zac Emerson, and primary school friend Jesse Brown, how the track came about, here’s what they had to say:
“The track stemmed from a late night/early morning collaboration with the guys from SACHI and a dear friend Montell2099. It was a vibe creating this one and we are super happy that the track is finally out and about!” – L.A WOMEN
L.A WOMEN have only been making music since 2016 and have already achieved international recognition and support with three singles under their belt.
The band’s debut single, “Hurricane Love” premiered on MTV earlier this year and has accumulated over 4 million streams to date.
If L.A WOMEN keeps up this pace, I anticipate they’re going to land themselves spots on both top 10 charts and international sold out tours. They have a unique blend of sound that I can’t get enough of.
